The Setting

No matter which direction you look, gorgeous vistas greet you. To the east, Cat Mountain, here bathed in sunset hues.

Located at the south edge of Sangre de Cristo Ranches, the property borders a portion of the vast Trinchera Ranch. Owned by a billionaire, the ranch has conservation easements that preclude development. Consequently, the ranch offers refuge to a wide variety of wild animals. Elk are extremely abundant and their bugles can be heard most fall evenings. Deer have bedded down for the evening on the ridge outside the kitchen window. They are very common year round. The photo below was taken from the window without a telephoto lens.

From the deck, the views encompass expansive vistas to the west. One of the more dominant landforms, a mesa, has Mountain Home Reservoir at its base. Beyond the mesa, on a clear day, you can catch a glimpse of the La Garita Mountains to the north and the San Juan Mountains to the south.

And to the north, Mt. Blanca offers a never-ending show. Every day it changes. In the mornings, watch the sunrise from the deck with coffee or from the master bedroom. Your choice.

To really appreciate the beauty of the setting, you must come see it for yourself. Photos just can't convey the sense of quiet and solitude. At Casa Loma, you can relax and feel completely surrounded by the beauty of nature--a private retreat.

Access is easy from Colorado Highway 160. Travel five miles on pavement, then about one and a half miles on well-maintained county gravel roads. The property is well situated: Taos is an hour and a half drive to the south, Alamosa a half hour to the east, and Pueblo an hour and a half to the northeast.
